About Research Lower Plenty Baseball Club

If you want the pitch first, before registering your interest, then step up to the plate because here it comes...

We offer all children age 5+ (and their parents) the opportunity to get involved in baseball at every level. Our junior summer program is the largest and fastest growing junior baseball program in Melbourne. The Research Lower Plenty Baseball Club was founded in 1955 and has a rich and successful history and we are really proud of the growth in recent years of our junior baseball program.

Fielding junior baseball teams in every age group and often in multiple divisions, we also offer T-Ball Smash for children aged 5-8 and our famous Friday Night Instructional League for 9-12 year olds who are new to the game or don’t want to play regular competition games on the weekend (and those for whom too much baseball is never enough).

Last Summer our Junior program was very successful.

For the sixth season in a row, all children were given the opportunity to play every position. Having every child in your club “be the pitcher” is not common amongst clubs, this is something we highly value as we want every child to feel comfortable and be given the chance to have a go.

98% of players who played the previous year returned to play again (one of the players moved to Gippsland, so it was a little too far for them to travel back and forth.

On the field, our teams had great success. All of our teams made the finals. Half of them played in Grand Finals. Two of them were victorious.

We also had 13 players and two coaches selected to our charter representative teams. For those who want to play at a higher level, we ensure they are well prepared to put their best foot forward.

Our club spirit “The Research Way” emphasises respect for the game, supporting our teammates and playing the game the right way.

Our program provides a not so obvious benefit for you as a parent to be introduced to the club and The Research Way. It is important to understand the club is 100% volunteer-run. Our greatest strength is the breadth and depth of the fantastic volunteers who coach, organise and administer our club. This is the heartbeat of our club, the experience and the connection our club creates.

When you come down to the club, you will see some great facilities at your disposal

  • Our home ground is Glenauburn Park, Lower Plenty

  • Our newly built clubhouse - the Ian Hulmes Pavillion - was opened in 2021

  • Our indoor training facility, including an automated pitching machine was opened in 2020

  • Further upgrades such as enhanced field lighting, irrigation and others are in planning

Okay, there you have it. Now it’s your turn to throw the ball back. Let’s play ball!
